Olivet nursing clinicals in Alaska
Alaska appears on Olivet Nazarene University's approved list for FNP practicum hours, so an Alaska nurse can train close to home. Two state rules shape the plan: Alaska's nursing board registers each APRN student from an outside program before clinical work begins, and your Olivet clinicals there run on a license the compact cannot supply.

Where Alaska stands in Olivet's disclosures
Approved means Olivet has judged that its FNP track meets Alaska's requirements, so practicum hours can be logged here. Alaska certificate students have one extra check: the file never names the Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate, so ask the SON Clinical Coordinator whether Alaska's approval extends to it. An NEL practicum in Alaska likewise needs an approved state, yet no NEL list exists to check, while Alaska RN-BSN students keep their practicum hours close to home. Registering your preceptorship with Alaska's board
For an Olivet FNP student, the Alaska step attaches to you, the person, instead of to the school. Regulation 12 AAC 44.460 lets the Alaska Board of Nursing register an individual for clinical practice when the APRN program is headquartered in another state, so the filing is yours and it names your preceptorship, not Olivet's whole program. Expect to assemble four things.
- Your RN licenseGood standing is the test, and Alaska's form takes either an Alaska license or another state's.
- Olivet enrollment proofSomething showing you are enrolled in Olivet's APRN program right now.
- A four-party agreementOlivet, the clinical facility, your preceptor and you sign it; the board must approve that arrangement.
- Form 08-4253Alaska's APRN Preceptorship Registration, submitted with a non-refundable fee.
Registrations last a year at most and end early if that preceptorship wraps up first; Alaska permits a single renewal. Alaska's preceptor standard asks for an APRN or a physician, licensed or privileged to practice with nothing restricting it, working in a focus close to your Olivet course, and present on site to teach, supervise and grade your work. The license you train on in Alaska
Alaska remains outside the NLC, which means compact privileges stop at the Alaska line. Olivet asks that every clinical day happen in person under a current, unencumbered RN license that is valid in the state where your patients are seen. Since Alaska's registration form will take a license from elsewhere, raise the question with the SON Clinical Coordinator before filing and read Olivet's license rule for the details. The APRN Compact is also absent from Alaska law.
Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley and Fairbanks
Alaska NPs carry AANP's full practice label, so the NP who precepts you there is licensed to practice without a required physician agreement. Most searches begin in Anchorage, a metro near 406,000 people. Providence Alaska Medical Center belongs to the Providence system, based in Renton, Washington, the largest hospital operator in Alaska; the Alaska Native Medical Center is a tribal health system in the same city; HCA Healthcare owns Alaska Regional Hospital.
Mat-Su Regional Medical Center serves Palmer, north of Anchorage. Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Tanana Valley Clinic both sit under Foundation Health Partners, in a Fairbanks metro of about 94,000, while Juneau counts roughly 32,000 residents. Questions Olivet students ask
Can I complete Olivet FNP clinicals in Alaska?
Yes. Alaska is one of the approved states in Olivet's March 12, 2026 file for out-of-state APRN students. Before patient care begins, your preceptorship needs its Alaska board registration, and Olivet must approve the preceptor through its own process. Plan both early, because the board wants a signed agreement in hand when you apply.
How long does an Alaska APRN preceptorship registration last?
Up to a year, and less if that preceptorship finishes sooner, with one renewal on offer. Olivet's FNP clinicals stretch across several courses, so match your Olivet course calendar to each registration and file the renewal before the first one lapses. Your advisor and course faculty can confirm the order of clinical courses in your curriculum.
Could Alaska join the compact during my Olivet program?
Not so far. On its compact page, Alaska's nursing board reports that lawmakers have passed nothing yet and lists HB 131 and SB 124, both 2025-2026 session bills, as pending. Until a law takes effect, check that page before each Olivet clinical term and keep the license you train on current.
Can Olivet RN-BSN students in Alaska do practicum hours at home?
Olivet enrolls RN-BSN students beyond Illinois and has them finish practicum hours where they live, which for you means Alaska. For RN-to-BS distance learners, the Alaska board FAQ names two conditions: the program must hold national accreditation plus approval in its home state, which for Olivet is Illinois, and you need an unencumbered, current RN license issued by a US state or territory.
