Olivet's licensure disclosures, read for your clinicals
Olivet Nazarene University publishes professional licensure disclosures for two nursing programs: the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Family Nurse Practitioner. For FNP students the list decides where practicum hours may happen, with 37 states plus the District of Columbia approved and 13 not. The education and leadership tracks and the RN-BSN do not appear on the page at all.

Two licensure programs, two documents
Olivet's Professional Licensure Disclosures page, part of the university's consumer information pages, names two nursing programs that lead to a license and links a separate document for each. The page says faculty rate every state as Met, Not Met or Undetermined, and it asks students to tell the University whenever their permanent address changes.
The two documents differ in age, format and vocabulary, so read the one written for your program instead of assuming they work alike.

The FNP file's header also shows a last-amended date of 10/31/25 beside its federal rule citations, while the file name carries March 12, 2026. When you save a copy for your records, note both.
What Approved means on the FNP list
Approved is Olivet's statement that its FNP meets requirements in that state, and it is what allows you to complete practicum hours there. The March 2026 file puts 37 states plus the District of Columbia in this group, among them Illinois and each state that borders it.
One approved state comes with a qualifier. Kansas is marked approved with additional state requirements, and Olivet directs Kansas students to FNPpracticum@olivet.edu before they plan hours there. Our Kansas guide has more on that state.
Approved does not settle every licensure question. Olivet's file warns that some states set their own rules on clinical hours, preceptor qualifications or documentation for APRN licensure, citing a 750-hour minimum as one example. Olivet's FNP totals 750 hours, shown course by course on the 750-hour page. Read the rules of the board in the state where you expect to hold your APRN license, and remember that Olivet still approves each preceptor on its own.
What Not Approved means, in brief
Thirteen states sit in the Not Approved group. Olivet's file says it has not yet made a determination about its FNP in those states, and it bars practicum hours in all of them, even for a student whose home is in an approved state. A note on vocabulary. The disclosures page talks about Met, Not Met and Undetermined, while the FNP file uses only Approved and Not Approved. Because Olivet explains Not Approved as a determination it has not yet made, the FNP file labels no state as Not Met.
The state that counts is where the practice sits, not where you live. A preceptor just across a state line must also be in an approved state.
The BSN disclosure and its 2024 review
The BSN file marks all 50 states as Met, each with 2024 as the year last reviewed, and it remains the document linked from the current disclosures page. It lists neither the District of Columbia nor any territory.
This disclosure matters most to Traditional BSN students on the Bourbonnais campus who plan to take the NCLEX-RN outside Illinois. Olivet's BSN handbook sends graduates to IDFPR for the Illinois application; a graduate testing elsewhere applies through that state's board, which sets its own conditions. The file has no bearing on where Traditional BSN clinicals happen, because Olivet assigns every one of those placements.
With a 2024 review year on every row, it pays to read the licensing board's current rules for your target state as graduation approaches before you apply.
Programs the disclosures page does not list
Olivet does not list its education and leadership programs or the RN-BSN as licensure programs, and one FNP pathway is covered only by implication. Each still has a rule about where practicum hours happen.
- MSN Nursing Education & Leadership and the Post-Bachelor's NEL certificate. Both program pages say practicum hours must be completed in an approved state, yet neither publishes a state list. Ask the Online Advising Team which list applies before you commit to a preceptor for
NRSG 604orNRSG 620. - RN-BSN. The program takes students from outside Illinois, and its practicum hours are completed in each student's own community. Nothing on the FNP list is aimed at it.
- Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate. Its program page requires an approved state, but the disclosure file names only the FNP track and does not say whether the certificate follows the same list. Work from the FNP list and confirm through FNPpracticum@olivet.edu.
Olivet's accreditation sheet adds that the university takes part in state authorization reciprocity through the Illinois Board of Higher Education and offers online programs across all 50 states as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Neither disclosure file lists a territory, so students living in one should ask before planning clinical hours.
Using the disclosures before each clinical course

- Match the practice, not your addressConfirm the state where the office itself is located. For a clinic group with offices in two states, check the office where you will actually see patients.
- Flag Kansas earlyIf the site is in Kansas, email FNPpracticum@olivet.edu before you ask a preceptor to commit.
- Look ahead to licensureRead the rules of the board where you expect to hold your APRN license, since Olivet notes that some states add hour, preceptor or documentation requirements of their own.

Questions Olivet students ask
Is Illinois an approved state for Olivet FNP clinicals?
Yes. Illinois is in the Approved group of Olivet's March 12, 2026 FNP file, as are all five states that border it: Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri and Wisconsin. That gives students around Bourbonnais, Chicagoland and the state's edges a wide approved area to search, although Olivet still approves each individual preceptor.
How often does Olivet update its licensure disclosures?
Olivet publishes no update schedule, and the disclosures page shows no revision date of its own. The FNP file is dated March 12, 2026, and the BSN file still carries its 2024 review. Recheck the page before each clinical course and before any move, since only the file linked there today reflects Olivet's position.
Does a Met rating on the BSN list mean I can be licensed in any state?
Met is Olivet's 2024 rating of its BSN against each state's requirements. The board in the state where you test still decides your license, including its own application steps and background review, so read that board's instructions well before you apply for the NCLEX-RN.
Why is the FNP file titled for out-of-state APRN programs?
The title refers to out-of-state APRN programs, but the only track the file names is the Family Nurse Practitioner, and Olivet does not explain the title further. Read it as the FNP disclosure, and send track-specific questions, including any about the Post-Graduate APRN certificate, to FNPpracticum@olivet.edu.
Who do I ask if my state's status looks out of date?
Write to FNPpracticum@olivet.edu, the mailbox Olivet's FNP file names for out-of-state questions. Both MSN handbooks name GraduateNursing@olivet.edu for clinical matters, so copying that address keeps the program support side informed. Give the state, the site and your course, and keep the reply with your placement records.
