750 clinical hours in Olivet's FNP, course by course
Olivet Nazarene University's MSN Family Nurse Practitioner and its Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate both require 750 clinical hours with an approved preceptor. New-curriculum students earn them in four population courses of 240, 135, 135 and 240 hours; continuing students in the current curriculum earn them in six clinicals that reach 125 hours each.

The short answer: 750 hours, only in the clinical courses
Olivet's FNP program page counts four clinical courses and 750 cumulative hours, all done near home under a preceptor you choose and Olivet approves. The Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate page lists the same four courses and the same total, so a certificate student logs exactly as many hours as an MSN student. Every one of those hours belongs to a clinical course, and each clinical course is paired with a didactic course on the same population: NRSG 636C with NRSG 636, NRSG 637C with NRSG 637, and so on. Olivet links each pair: a failure on either side is retaken while the other side is audited, so the hour plan and the coursework plan have to be read together.

The two broad courses carry most of the load. Adult and older adult care and the lifespan course hold 480 of the 750 hours, close to two-thirds, while women's health and pediatrics hold 135 each. That split matters when you recruit, because each 240-hour course needs a preceptor willing to host you for a long stretch inside one course window.
Every course in the table has a guide of its own: NRSG 636C for adults, NRSG 637C for women's health, NRSG 638C for children and NRSG 639C for the lifespan. NRSG 688 FNP Immersion closes the sample schedule after them.
Current curriculum: six clinicals of 125 hours
Continuing students work from the 8/31/26 revision of the Current Curriculum handbook, which spreads the same total across six clinicals numbered NRSG 665A to NRSG 665F. Each is paired with a therapeutics and management course from NRSG 667 to NRSG 672.

At the older figures the six courses add to 740 hours: four at 125 and two at 120. Once both increases apply they add to 750. If you reach NRSG 665E or NRSG 665F close to a change date, ask your advisor which count your section uses. The NRSG 665 guide goes through the series.
What sits outside the 750
Several requirements live next to the 750 hours without counting toward them, and a few details that shape your hour plan are set outside Olivet's public pages.
- FNP Immersion: no hours are attached to
NRSG 688(new) orNRSG 685(current), even though the fee sheet charges a lab fee for it. - Population health:
NRSG 604appears in the FNP sample order with no hours, while the NEL schedule gives the same course 30 direct clinical hours. - RN experience: the 2,000 RN hours are an admission and progression requirement finished by the end of
NRSG 681, separate from clinical hours. - Course length: the number of weeks in each FNP clinical course is set in the syllabus, not the handbook.
- Other states: according to Olivet's FNP disclosure, a state can attach extra hour, preceptor or documentation conditions before it grants APRN licensure.

Nine courses stand before the first MSN clinical and four before the certificate's, so certificate students need their first preceptor much sooner after they start.
Program length is a published conflict of its own: 36 months on the FNP page against under 24 months in a 2025 Olivet news story. Because Olivet shows one sample order and no alternative full-time or part-time versions, the plan of study your advisor confirms is the only calendar your hours can follow.
Four preceptor searches, planned as one
Nothing in Olivet's handbook settles whether a single preceptor can carry you through two FNP courses, so plan one match per population until your course faculty say otherwise. That is four searches in the new curriculum and six in the current one, each needing an approved preceptor before its course opens.

Questions Olivet students ask
Does the Post-Graduate FNP certificate require all 750 hours?
Yes. Olivet's certificate page lists four clinical courses and 750 hours, matching the MSN, and the new handbook gives certificate students the same NRSG 636C to NRSG 639C sequence. Under the current handbook, the certificate's courses are the asterisked ones, beginning at NRSG 627. The certificate guide covers the 3P entry rules.
How many of Olivet's FNP hours are in pediatrics?
In the new curriculum, 135 hours sit in NRSG 638C Pediatric Primary Care Clinical, and the 240-hour NRSG 639C spans patients of every age. In the current curriculum, NRSG 665C is the pediatric clinical at 125 hours, and NRSG 665F combines complex pediatric care with women's health for another 125 once the January 2027 change applies.
Does Olivet set a minimum number of patient encounters?
Olivet's public pages give hour totals, not encounter counts. The fee sheet describes Project Concert as tracking and documenting clinical encounters for FNP students, so any encounter targets come from your course and the Canvas requirements course. Read the syllabus before your first clinical day so your log matches what faculty will review.
Do hours finished before a long break still count?
Possibly not in full. Olivet's handbook allows an audit of any clinical course completed more than two years before you finish the program, and an audited FNP course can require repeating up to 50% of its hours. If a pause is coming, arrange the leave with the Online Advising Team and read leave and delays before you choose a return date.
