What Olivet's handbook says about NRSG 636C
The published facts are few and firm. The New Curriculum handbook names the course NRSG 636C Adult and Older Adult Primary Care Clinical, sets it at 240 clinical hours, pairs it with the didactic NRSG 636, and places it first among the four FNP clinicals. Like every FNP clinical, it is graded Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory.

Where NRSG 636C sits in your plan
NRSG 636C is the first clinical in both FNP tracks under the new curriculum, but the road to it differs in length.

For MSN students, the RN hours deadline at the end of NRSG 681 falls several courses before this clinical, so it is already behind you when NRSG 636C opens; the RN hours rule explains the withdrawal risk if it slips. Certificate students reach this course after only four courses, so their search should begin early in the certificate.
The current curriculum has no NRSG 636C. Continuing students cover adult and geriatric care in three pairs instead, NRSG 665A with NRSG 667, NRSG 665D with NRSG 670 and NRSG 665E with NRSG 671, which the NRSG 665 guide lays out.
The preceptor 240 hours calls for
You need a primary care preceptor whose patients are adults and older adults, practicing in your area and inside one of Olivet's approved states. Olivet approves that preceptor, and the credential, experience and discipline rules sit inside the Canvas requirements course, not on Olivet's public site. Because this course ties with NRSG 639C as the longest in the sequence, the preceptor's calendar matters as much as the specialty. Before you ask for a commitment, confirm three things: the clinic can host you for all 240 hours inside the course dates, its adult and older adult volume fits the syllabus, and you know whether it onboards students through MyClinicalExchange or a process of its own.
Whether an internal medicine office, a family practice with a heavy adult panel or a geriatric primary care practice suits the course best is a question for your course faculty. Ask it before approval is requested, not after.

NRSG 636C is the first time Olivet's compliance list has to be complete, and the handbook's rule is plain: every item done before the first clinical day and kept current after it.

Passing NRSG 636C
To pass, your graded work in the course has to average at least 83%, and all 240 logged hours must be rated satisfactory. Those hours live in Project Concert, where the fee sheet has FNP students log competencies and document each patient encounter.
Because the clinical and didactic courses are paired, a failure in either NRSG 636 or NRSG 636C means retaking the failed course and auditing the other. During an audit, the SON Clinical Coordinator works with the FNP Program Director to set how many hours you repeat, up to half the course total. For FNP courses that have a midterm and final, a request made by the end of Week 1 can move both exams to an Olivet testing site, if space allows.

Questions Olivet students ask
How early should the NRSG 636C preceptor search begin?
Olivet publishes no lead time and no approval turnaround for FNP preceptors, so earlier is safer. A practical start is the 3P courses, since NRSG 636C follows them directly. Olivet asks you to begin with your own network, and MSN FNP students who log 30 failed attempts can turn to the SON Clinical Coordinator, as the 30-attempt rule explains.
Can I complete NRSG 636C hours in urgent care or a hospital?
The course is titled adult and older adult primary care, and Olivet's public pages do not list which settings qualify. Urgent care, hospitalist or specialty hours might not match the syllabus, so get your course faculty's answer in writing before you ask a preceptor in one of those settings to commit.
Can the same preceptor take me again for NRSG 639C?
Olivet's pages do not address repeat preceptors across FNP courses. Because NRSG 639C spans patients of every age, a preceptor whose panel is adults only may fall short there, while a family practice that also sees children could. Confirm with faculty and the requirements course before you plan on a return.
What if I live in a state where Olivet does not allow FNP clinicals?
Olivet lists 13 states where FNP practicum hours may not be done. If you live in one, your hours have to happen in an approved state instead, and the same rule stops students in approved states from crossing into a listed state for hours. The not-approved states guide names all 13.
