Olivet Nazarene University's programs differ in the practicum they ask for: the MSN FNP runs four population-focused clinicals, while the NEL certificate has a single education and leadership practicum. Questions Olivet students ask
Which Olivet nursing programs need a preceptor?
The online MSN FNP, the Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate, the MSN Nursing Education & Leadership and its post-bachelor's certificate all use preceptors the student selects and Olivet approves. RN-BSN practicums use community and hospice preceptors. Traditional BSN clinicals are assigned by the school.
Does Olivet offer a DNP?
Not in nursing. Olivet's School of Nursing lists the BSN, RN-BSN, MSN tracks and certificates; its doctoral program is a Doctor of Education in Ethical Leadership.
Are the hours the same in both FNP curricula?
Yes, 750 in both. The new curriculum uses four longer clinicals of 240 and 135 hours; the current curriculum uses six clinicals of 125 hours once the October 2026 and January 2027 increases take effect.
