Olivet Nazarene University's online students do their practicum hours in their own area, so the state decides a lot: whether Olivet allows FNP hours there at all, what the board expects, and which RN license you need. Start with Illinois, Olivet's home state, then find yours below.

What follows you across state lines
Three Olivet rules apply wherever you train. You need a current, unencumbered RN license, you find your preceptor through your own networks first, and Olivet approves the preceptor before hours count. For the FNP, Olivet's March 2026 disclosure adds a fourth: practicum hours only in its approved states, even if you live somewhere else that is approved.
Olivet's licensure disclosures list 37 states plus the District of Columbia as approved for the FNP and 13 states as not approved. Its BSN review lists every state as meeting requirements. If you move after you start, read moving during your program and tell the Online Advising Team.

Can I study nursing online at Olivet from any state?
Olivet says its online programs are offered in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. For the FNP, though, practicum hours are allowed only in its approved states, and 13 states are not approved for FNP hours.
Which states are not approved for Olivet FNP clinicals?
Alabama, Arizona, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Washington and Wyoming, per Olivet's disclosure dated March 12, 2026. Olivet says it has not yet determined whether the FNP meets requirements there.
Does the same list apply to the NEL tracks?
The NEL pages say practicum hours must be done in an approved state but do not publish their own list. Ask the SON Clinical Coordinator which list applies to your track before you contact a preceptor.
