Olivet Nazarene University students living in Georgia
Georgia is one of the 13 states Olivet Nazarene University lists as Not Approved in its FNP disclosure of March 12, 2026, so no Olivet FNP practicum hours may be logged at Georgia sites. Three bordering states are approved, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina, which gives Georgia FNP students real choices within driving range. NEL and RN-BSN students have a different question for the SON Clinical Coordinator.

Olivet's explanation is short: its decision on whether the FNP satisfies Georgia's requirements is still to come, and no Georgia-specific reason is given. For an applicant, the practical step is choosing a neighboring approved state before enrolling. Olivet students elsewhere rule out Georgia practices, however convenient. Florida, the Carolinas and the Augusta metro
Georgia joined the multistate compact on January 19, 2018, and Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina belong to it too. A Georgia nurse with a multistate license can therefore train in any of the three approved neighbors without a second license.
Geography helps too. The Augusta-Richmond County metro spans the Savannah River, and about 211,000 of its roughly 641,000 residents live on the South Carolina side, in an approved state. Savannah sits near the same line, and south Georgia runs into Florida. Columbus is the catch: its metro crosses into Alabama, another Not Approved state, and Tennessee to the north is Not Approved as well.
What Georgia's board leaves to the programs
Georgia's Board of Nursing, which sits under the Secretary of State, stays out of post-licensure education entirely, APRN programs included. RN-BSN, MSN and NP programs from other states place students in Georgia without any board sign-off. Licenses carry the weight instead: a Georgia resident enrolled elsewhere who logs clinical hours in Georgia holds a Georgia license, or a compact license issued by another member state, and anyone teaching or precepting there, in person or online, meets the same test.
For APRN clinical instruction, the board adds that the instructor must hold Georgia APRN authorization. The board's hands-off stance toward post-licensure programs does not open Georgia to Olivet FNP hours. Georgia's place on the Not Approved list is Olivet's own listing, and the file leaves it unexplained.
Restricted practice and Georgia's systems
AANP counts Georgia among the restricted practice states. A Georgia NP practices under a physician's delegation or supervision, with tighter limits on prescribing Schedule II drugs. Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, home to nearly 6.5 million people, anchors the state, and Piedmont Healthcare, Wellstar, Emory Healthcare, Northside Hospital and Grady are among its major systems.
Georgia also offers preceptors a tax credit, recently revised and extended by the legislature according to the state's AHEC program. It rewards only rotations for learners in Georgia's own medical, dental, NP and PA schools, which puts preceptors of out-of-state students outside its reach.
Certificate, NEL and RN-BSN students in Georgia
Because Olivet's disclosure mentions the FNP track alone, a Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate student needs the SON Clinical Coordinator to say whether Georgia's status reaches the certificate; the certificate page itself requires an approved state. The NEL tracks carry the same approved-state requirement with no published list, so ask the coordinator which list governs your NRSG 604 and NRSG 620 hours.

Questions Olivet students ask
Can I use a Georgia preceptor if I live in Florida?
No. Olivet's file bars FNP practicum hours in every Not Approved state, including for students who live in approved ones. A Florida student can train with a Florida preceptor or in another approved state, but not across the line in Georgia. The rule follows the practice address, so give Olivet an approved-state office when the preceptor goes up for approval.
Does Georgia's board need to approve Olivet's programs?
The Georgia board keeps its hands off post-licensure programs, APRN programs among them, so out-of-state RN-BSN, MSN and NP programs place students there without its approval. That still does not open Georgia for Olivet FNP hours, which Olivet itself lists as Not Approved. For NEL and RN-BSN practicums, the SON Clinical Coordinator has the final word.
Which license do I need for a South Carolina clinical?
A Georgia multistate license covers a South Carolina site, since both states are compact members. A single-state Georgia license does not travel. Olivet looks for an unencumbered RN license in good standing in the state hosting the clinical, and the site may run its own license check during onboarding.
Should I plan an FNP career in Georgia after Olivet?
Olivet's Not Approved label says it has not determined whether its FNP meets Georgia's requirements, and those requirements reach the license you would hold after finishing. If you intend to practice as an FNP in Georgia, raise it with FNPpracticum@olivet.edu and with the Georgia board ahead of enrolling, and save both replies.
