Olivet Nazarene University counts Florida among the approved states for FNP practicum hours, and its four largest metros together hold more than 14 million people. Two features shape an Olivet search here: AANP rates Florida's NP practice as restricted, and both states that border Florida are missing from Olivet's approved list.

Olivet's Florida entries
Florida residents can finish Olivet FNP clinicals at home. Florida certificate students get a separate answer: the disclosure is written around the FNP track, so the SON Clinical Coordinator confirms whether Florida's approval covers the Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate. An NEL practicum also requires an approved state, but the NEL pages give no list to check Florida against, and RN-BSN practicum hours take place in the student's Florida community. Restricted practice and your Florida preceptor
Florida is one of AANP's restricted practice states. For some Florida NPs, a physician protocol is a career-long fixture of practice, with exemptions possible in certain cases. When a Florida NP agrees to precept you, ask how the protocol shapes daily work in that practice, because the details help describe the site correctly for Olivet's review.
Olivet keeps its FNP preceptor criteria in the Canvas requirements course rather than on public pages, and its approval settles each Florida match. Check that course before assuming a protocol physician can sign as your preceptor.
As for the board, Florida's section 464.019 governs schools seeking to offer pre-licensure nursing education inside Florida, and that is also how the Florida Board of Nursing frames its approval work. That statute sets out no approval or notice step for an RN-BSN or graduate program from another state whose students train in Florida.
TEACH funding: who it pays and who it leaves out
Clinics sometimes mention TEACH (section 409.91256), short for Training, Education, and Clinicals in Health. The state's health care administration agency runs it, it reimburses facilities instead of giving preceptors a tax credit, and it lasts only as long as lawmakers fund it. Eligible sites include FQHCs, rural health clinics, CCBHCs, community mental health centers and some shortage-area nonprofits, which receive an hourly reimbursement for training nursing students and primary care APRN students, up to a yearly cap for each facility.
The fine print matters for you. Preceptors must hold Florida licenses, and reimbursement covers only students of accredited programs based in Florida. Olivet is based in Illinois, so a clinic hosting your rotation would not draw TEACH money for it. Florida has scheduled the program's repeal for July 1, 2034.
Miami to Jacksonville, and the northern border
South Florida's Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro is home to roughly 6.39 million people. The Tampa Bay metro holds about 3.42 million, greater Orlando nearly 2.96 million, and Jacksonville around 1.79 million. When Olivet students scan Florida's large systems, they find UF Health, AdventHealth (headquartered in Florida, with hospitals in several states), Baptist Health South Florida, HCA Florida Healthcare and BayCare Health System. Each sets its own student terms.
Florida has held Nurse Licensure Compact membership since January 19, 2018, and its multistate license reaches every compact state. It cannot rescue a Georgia or Alabama site, though: both are on Olivet's Not Approved list. Florida lawmakers have not adopted the APRN Compact.
Georgia and Alabama practices cannot host Olivet FNP hours, even for a Florida resident who lives minutes from the state line.

Is Florida approved for the Olivet FNP program?
Yes. Olivet's March 12, 2026 file for out-of-state APRN students rates Florida approved: Olivet judged its FNP to meet Florida's requirements, so practicum hours may be done there. Each Florida preceptor still needs Olivet's approval, and every clinical day is in person on an unencumbered RN license good in Florida.
Can a Florida NP working under a physician protocol be my preceptor?
Graduate preceptor credentials are not on Olivet's public pages; they sit in the Canvas requirements course, and Olivet signs off on every Florida choice. A protocol is a normal part of practice for select Florida NPs, so it describes how the practice runs rather than ruling anyone out. Confirm the requirements with your course faculty before you commit.
I live in the Panhandle. Does a Georgia or Alabama preceptor count?
No. Both appear in the Not Approved column of Olivet's March 2026 file, meaning Olivet has made no determination yet about its FNP in either state, and it bars FNP practicum hours in both for every student, Floridians included. Panhandle students keep their search inside Florida.
Does Florida's board need to approve Olivet before RN-BSN practicum hours?
Florida's approval statute concerns schools offering pre-licensure education in Florida, and none of its provisions ask out-of-state RN-BSN programs to seek approval or give notice.
