New Hampshire and Olivet's nursing clinicals
Under Olivet Nazarene University's rules, FNP practicum hours cannot be completed in New Hampshire, which the March 12, 2026 FNP disclosure places in the Not Approved group. Every state on New Hampshire's border is approved, so FNP students living there can train in Maine, Vermont or Massachusetts once the license question is settled. NEL and RN-BSN students get their answer from the SON Clinical Coordinator.

New Hampshire in Olivet's disclosures
Olivet files New Hampshire among the states still awaiting its determination on the FNP and offers no New Hampshire reason. For applicants the picture is simple: online coursework from home, FNP clinicals over a state line. For Olivet students living in approved states, a New Hampshire practice is not an option for FNP hours. The not approved states page has the full list.

Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts: three license answers
Since January 19, 2018, New Hampshire nurses have been able to hold multistate licenses. Maine entered the compact that same day and Vermont on February 1, 2022, so crossing the Connecticut River or the Maine line for clinicals takes no extra license if yours is multistate.
Massachusetts is where the plan changes. The Bay State passed the compact in November 2024, yet its nursing board treats it as dormant until implementation, aimed at May 2027. For now, a Massachusetts practice will expect a Massachusetts RN license from you. In all, 459,120 Granite Staters live inside the Boston metro, and for many southern-tier students the closest approved practice is south of the border. What the New Hampshire board regulates
OPLC, the state's Office of Professional Licensure and Certification, houses the Board of Nursing. Its distance-education rule for schools from other states, Nur 602.15(j), targets pre-licensure programs only. Such a school notifies the board before its students arrive, allows six weeks of lead time ahead of each placement, and files three kinds of paperwork: an annual petition, a form for each rotation and an agreement for each preceptor. Faculty it brings in to supervise must meet New Hampshire's standards and hold an unencumbered state license.
Programs for nurses who already hold a license, RN-BSN and RN-MSN among them, sit outside the board's regulation, according to OPLC. A caution on the rule itself: one online copy lists it as expiring in late January 2026, yet OPLC was still citing it that month, so read the board's live page before relying on it. None of this appears in Olivet's file as a reason for New Hampshire's FNP status.
Full practice and New Hampshire's health systems
AANP rates New Hampshire as full practice, as it does Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts. Dartmouth Health, which includes Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, is the academic heavyweight; Elliot Health System, Concord Hospital, Catholic Medical Center and Southern New Hampshire Health round out the larger names. Elliot and Southern New Hampshire Health were founding members of SolutionHealth, and the partnership's boards proposed ending it in July 2025. Manchester-Nashua, near 433,000 residents, is the biggest metro contained entirely in New Hampshire.
NEL, RN-BSN and certificate students in New Hampshire
The New Hampshire board sets post-licensure programs outside its regulation, but Olivet's own rules come first. Olivet's NEL tracks need an approved state for the practicum but come with no printed roster, so the coordinator's word decides where yours can happen. RN-BSN students, whom Olivet describes as completing practicum hours in their own community, confirm New Hampshire with the coordinator too, and certificate students check as well, because the disclosure is written for the FNP track by name. The Online Advising Team needs to hear about any address change.

Questions Olivet students ask
Can a New Hampshire FNP student train in Boston?
Massachusetts is approved for Olivet FNP hours, so a Boston-area practice can qualify once Olivet approves the preceptor. The license is the catch: the compact is law in Massachusetts but not yet in force, with a May 2027 target, so today a clinical there requires a Massachusetts RN license.
Does New Hampshire's board regulate Olivet's RN-BSN?
According to OPLC, post-licensure programs, the RN-BSN included, fall outside the New Hampshire board's regulation, and its out-of-state rule speaks to pre-licensure schools. Olivet still decides which states its RN-BSN practicums may use, so confirm New Hampshire with the SON Clinical Coordinator before arranging a hospice or population health placement.
Will my New Hampshire license work in Vermont?
A multistate New Hampshire license covers Vermont and Maine, both compact members. A single-state license stays in New Hampshire. Whichever you hold, Olivet looks for an active license with no encumbrance in the clinical's state.
Could New Hampshire move to Olivet's approved list?
Olivet's wording, not yet determined, leaves room for change, but the file gives no timeline. Only a newer version on Olivet's licensure disclosures page would change a state's status, so open the current file before each clinical course.
