In practical terms, your Arkansas NP preceptor works under a regulated physician agreement that reaches into some part of daily practice, and certain prescriptions depend on a physician protocol. What the Arkansas board asks of schools from other states
Olivet students rotating through Arkansas clinics meet no published approval requirement aimed at their school: the Arkansas State Board of Nursing's rules leave clinical-only placements by outside programs alone. Olivet would come under the prelicensure standards in 17 CAR Part 125 only by opening a program of its own in Arkansas. For APRN programs, the rules rely on national accreditation and call the result deemed status.
One wrinkle is worth knowing. Arkansas exempts some nursing students from licensure under A.C.A. 17-87-103(2), yet that wording covers programs the Arkansas board approves, and it says nothing about programs approved in other states. You arrive at an Arkansas site as a licensed RN, which Olivet already insists be current and unencumbered, so keep it in order and send any site question about board standing to the SON Clinical Coordinator.
Compact licensing has applied to Arkansas nurses since January 19, 2018; the state placed the NLC inside its own practice act as Title 17, Chapter 87, Subchapter 6. No APRN Compact law exists there yet, so advanced practice licensing stays state by state.
Little Rock, Northwest Arkansas, Fort Smith and Jonesboro
Around 778,000 people live in the metro anchored by Little Rock and Conway, the state's largest, and Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers follows at about 622,000. Big names include UAMS Health, which belongs to the state's medical sciences university, Arkansas Children's, CHI St. Vincent in Little Rock, part of CommonSpirit Health, and Baptist Health, also based in Little Rock. Mercy, headquartered in St. Louis, operates hospitals in Fort Smith and Northwest Arkansas. Jonesboro's metro holds about 139,000 people. Student rotation terms appear on each system's own pages.
The Fort Smith metro spills into Oklahoma, which Olivet also approves, and Missouri and Texas are approved too. Across the Mississippi River the answer changes: Tennessee and Mississippi, along with Louisiana to the south, appear on Olivet's Not Approved list.
Living in Arkansas does not carry Olivet approval across the state line. A Tennessee, Mississippi or Louisiana practice cannot host your FNP hours.
