Nevada clinical hours for Olivet students
Nevada is an approved state for Olivet Nazarene University FNP practicum hours, and it asks more of an online student than most. The Nevada State Board of Nursing keeps internet-delivered programs out of Nevada clinical instruction until it approves them, wants a Nevada license on anyone treating Nevada patients, and three of the five states around Nevada are closed to Olivet FNP hours.

Nevada on Olivet's lists
Olivet's approval answers Olivet's half of the question. Nevada's board keeps a second half, set out below, and both have to line up before an FNP student logs hours in Las Vegas or Reno. Certificate and NEL students, who do not appear in the FNP file, raise Nevada with the SON Clinical Coordinator.

NAC 632.703: online programs and Nevada clinicals
Section 632.703 of Nevada's administrative code covers any school that teaches part of a program inside Nevada. Such a school files a board report backed by its accreditation or approval, shows it complies with Chapter 632, and sends an annual school report. For an online school like Olivet, one clause matters most: clinical teaching in Nevada waits until the board approves the program, and whoever teaches in Nevada needs a Nevada license. Nothing in the text sets graduate programs apart.
The board also publishes a roster of out-of-state schools approved for their Nevada clinicals only. The edition dated September 1, 2026 holds pre-licensure schools and no Olivet entry. A Nevada license for every patient you see
Nevada never signed on to the nurse compact, which makes every multistate license, from Utah or anywhere, of no use for Nevada practice. The board has also ruled that caring for a patient located in Nevada is Nevada nursing practice, student clinical work with patients included, and that it takes a Nevada license. A 2005 board decision still shapes precepted clinicals in Nevada:
- Direction: your faculty oversee every clinical experience
- Ratio: two students per preceptor, maximum, with the preceptor physically present
- Access: faculty stay reachable during your shifts
- Preparation: the school orients each preceptor and supplies written objectives
Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City and three closed borders
Greater Las Vegas, taking in Henderson and North Las Vegas, counted close to 2.41 million residents in 2025; the Reno metro had about 579,000 and Carson City about 59,000. Down south, UMC is the academic medical center, while HCA's Sunrise Health System, The Valley Health System and Dignity Health's hospitals in the valley fill out the big names. Up north, most searches run into Renown Health. Each system writes its own student rules.
AANP gives Nevada full practice with one carve-out: an NP with fewer than two years, or 2,000 hours, of clinical experience writes Schedule II prescriptions only under a protocol a physician has approved. Then check the map. California, Arizona and Oregon all sit on Olivet's Not Approved list, so a clinic a few miles over any of those lines cannot host your FNP hours. Utah and Idaho, the other two neighbors, are approved.

Questions Olivet students ask
Is Nevada approved for Olivet FNP practicum hours?
Yes, on Olivet's list. The March 12, 2026 FNP disclosure places Nevada among the approved states. Separately, Nevada's board wants to approve an internet-delivered program before it teaches clinicals in Nevada, so confirm with Olivet how that applies to you well ahead of your first course there.
Will my Arizona or Utah compact license let me train in Nevada?
No. Because Nevada stayed outside the compact, those multistate privileges end at the Nevada line. In the board's view, a student's hands-on care of Nevada patients counts as nursing practice in Nevada, and that calls for a Nevada license.
Can I cross into California for clinicals from Reno or Las Vegas?
Not for FNP hours. California shares the Not Approved list with Arizona and Oregon, and Olivet does not allow FNP practicum hours in any of them, no matter where the student lives. On Nevada's borders, Utah and Idaho are the approved options, and a planned move is covered in moving during your program.
Can a busy Las Vegas preceptor fit me in with another school's student?
Only if the numbers work. Under the 2005 decision a Nevada preceptor supervises no more than two students at once, in person. Ask about the other student's schedule before you build your clinical calendar around that preceptor.
