Kansas in Olivet's disclosures

Olivet's file flags the Kansas requirements without spelling them out, and the FNPpracticum mailbox is where Olivet answers them for your situation. The file names only the FNP track, so Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate students should ask the same mailbox, or the SON Clinical Coordinator, whether the Kansas note applies to them. Olivet's MSN handbooks send out-of-state questions to GraduateNursing@olivet.edu instead, a mismatch between the two sources; for Kansas, following the disclosure means writing to the practicum mailbox, and copying GraduateNursing does no harm.

What the Kansas board publishes for out-of-state APRN programs

Apart from Olivet's note, the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN) posts a guidance sheet for online APRN programs based in other states. The points below are the board's, not a list of Olivet's added requirements:

Enrollment first, review later: a Kansan may begin Olivet's online FNP with no advance sign-off from the board, and KSBN evaluates Olivet's program only when an Olivet graduate files for a Kansas APRN license.
Who precepts you: KSBN, citing K.A.R. 60-17-104, expects an Olivet preceptor in Kansas to get an orientation, put a signature on an agreement and carry Kansas APRN licensure in the FNP role; KSBN treats that Kansas license as a must for anyone supervising an APRN student clinically.
Your own footing at the site: an RN license Kansas honors, whether Kansas-issued or multistate, plus your standing, under K.S.A. 65-1124, as a student of advanced practice nursing.
Faculty: Olivet instructors who teach online are not asked for Kansas licenses, KSBN requires no clinical visits, and any faculty member who does stop by is treated as a visitor.

The check at the end: Kansas APRN licensure

If Kansas is where you plan to practice as an FNP, KSBN reviews Olivet's program when your license application arrives. The board wants national accreditation, 45 or more credit hours in total, and at least 3 credits apiece in advanced health assessment, advanced pathophysiology and advanced pharmacology, the courses Olivet groups as the 3Ps. It also counts role-specialty clinical hours, with the bar set by admission date: students admitted before March 1, 2025 need 500, and those admitted after it need 750.

Olivet's FNP lists 750 clinical hours (course by course on Olivet's 750 FNP hours), and CCNE accredits Olivet's master's and post-graduate APRN certificate programs. Keep every hour documented in Project Concert and confirm with your advisor how Olivet's transcript shows the three advanced courses.

Kansas City, Wichita, Topeka and Manhattan

The Kansas City metro straddles the Missouri line, and some 938,000 of its residents are Kansans. Wichita's metro is home to roughly 664,000, Topeka's to about 233,000 and Manhattan's to about 136,000. Olivet students scanning Kansas systems will find Stormont Vail Health, Ascension Via Christi, Wesley Healthcare (HCA's Wichita hospital) and The University of Kansas Health System, each with its own student terms.

AANP rates Kansas as full practice. Compact licensing came to Kansas on July 1, 2019, and the neighbors Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado are compact states that Olivet also approves; the Missouri guide covers the other half of Kansas City. No APRN Compact law has passed in Kansas.

What are Olivet's additional requirements for Kansas?

Olivet's disclosure says Kansas has additional state requirements but does not list them; it directs Kansas students to FNPpracticum@olivet.edu. Email that mailbox before you secure a preceptor. The Kansas board's public guidance for out-of-state APRN programs is useful background, but it is the board's document, not Olivet's list.

Can I use a Missouri preceptor if I live on the Kansas side of Kansas City?

Missouri is approved in Olivet's FNP file, so a Missouri site is possible. Missouri's own board rules then govern that clinical, and Olivet still approves the preceptor. Because both states are compact members, a multistate license from your home state can cover either side; confirm with the FNPpracticum mailbox that the Kansas note does not change your plan.

Do Olivet faculty visit Kansas clinical sites?

Olivet's pages do not describe faculty site visits for graduate clinicals. Kansas does not require them, and the board says any faculty who visit do so as visitors or lay persons. Faculty may ask your preceptor for input, but Olivet's faculty evaluate your outcomes.

Does the Kansas note apply to NEL or RN-BSN students?

The Kansas note sits in Olivet's FNP disclosure. Olivet's NEL pages ask for an approved state without naming any, and RN-BSN practicum hours are done near home, so the Kansas note is not written for either group. NEL and RN-BSN students in Kansas should confirm their plans with the SON Clinical Coordinator or their advisor.
