Olivet FNP and nursing clinicals in Nebraska
Olivet Nazarene University lists Nebraska as approved for FNP practicum hours, and Nebraska's regulators stay out of post-licensure programs such as Olivet's MSN tracks and RN-BSN. One line of state guidance still earns a question to Olivet: the state wants anyone teaching its APRN students to be licensed as a Nebraska APRN.

Olivet's disclosure entries for Nebraska
Nebraska sits in the approved column, so an Olivet FNP student living in Omaha or Lincoln can train without leaving the state. The file speaks only of the FNP, which leaves the Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate and both NEL tracks to confirm with the SON Clinical Coordinator. How Nebraska's DHHS treats online graduate programs
In Nebraska, nurse licensing runs through the Department of Health and Human Services, where the Board of Nursing sits inside the Licensure Unit. Board approval is aimed at NCLEX-track schools, which must contact the board if they educate students in Nebraska and may then need its approval. Programs that start after the RN license, whether online or delivered some other way, are not regulated by the board, so your Olivet FNP, NEL or RN-BSN clinicals involve no Nebraska filing.
DHHS adds two working rules. Schools arrange preceptors directly with the clinical facility, and for post-licensure programs, the school decides what qualifies a preceptor. In your case that points straight back to Olivet: the requirements in your track's Canvas course and Olivet's preceptor approval define who may precept you in Nebraska.
Practice follows the student's location
Nebraska DHHS works from NCSBN's position that nursing practice happens where the student is. Two things follow for faculty. An instructor must be licensed wherever the student sits, and for APRN students in Nebraska that means a Nebraska APRN license. Olivet does not publish how its FNP faculty meet that for Nebraska students; bring it up with the SON Clinical Coordinator, or email the FNPpracticum@olivet.edu box, ahead of your first Nebraska clinical course.
Your own license is simpler. Nebraska entered the nurse compact on January 19, 2018; hold a multistate license from Iowa, Kansas or another member and you can walk into a Nebraska clinic without a second license. Nebraska lawmakers have not adopted the APRN Compact. On practice, AANP scores Nebraska full practice once an NP clears 2,000 hours working under a supervising provider, which means your search can include newer NPs still in that period as well as long-independent ones.
Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island and the neighbors
Nebraska's share of the Omaha metro, which reaches across the Missouri River into Iowa, is about 887,000 people; Lincoln adds roughly 352,000, and Grand Island, near 78,000, anchors the middle of the state. Search Nebraska and you will meet CHI Health and Nebraska Medicine, Bryan Health, the Nebraska Methodist Health System and a pediatric system, Children's Nebraska, which is worth knowing about when your pediatric clinical comes up. Each one handles student requests its own way.
Iowa, Missouri, Colorado and South Dakota are all approved, so an Omaha student can train on the Iowa side of the metro. Kansas is approved but carries extra state requirements that Olivet routes through FNPpracticum@olivet.edu. Wyoming, beyond the panhandle, is on the Not Approved list.

Questions Olivet students ask
Does Nebraska require approval for Olivet's online FNP program?
No board approval step applies to it. In DHHS's words, the board regulates programs leading to a first nursing license and not post-licensure programs, however they are delivered. On Olivet's side, the March 12, 2026 FNP disclosure already counts Nebraska as approved.
Can my Iowa compact license cover a Nebraska clinical site?
Yes, if Iowa issued it as a multistate license, because Nebraska is a compact member too. A single-state license, such as one from Illinois, stops at the Illinois line, and a Nebraska site would then need a Nebraska RN license before your first day.
Who decides whether a Nebraska NP can precept me?
For programs that begin after the RN license, Nebraska hands that call to the school. For Olivet students the rules sit in the Student Clinical or Practicum Requirements Course for your track, and Olivet signs off on each preceptor before any hours count.
Can I use a Kansas preceptor from southern Nebraska?
Kansas is on Olivet's approved list, but with added state requirements. Olivet's disclosure file points Kansas students to its FNP practicum mailbox, so email FNPpracticum@olivet.edu early, well before a Kansas preceptor blocks out dates, and let those extra steps run their course.
