Colorado clinicals for Olivet Nazarene nursing students
Colorado sits on the approved list in Olivet Nazarene University's March 2026 FNP disclosure, so a Front Range nurse can finish every Olivet FNP clinical without crossing a state line. The Colorado board adds no approval step for graduate programs based elsewhere, and the state's preceptor tax credit is written around Colorado schools, which shapes how you pitch the rotation.

Olivet's disclosures, read for Colorado
Olivet offers its online programs in Colorado through SARA, which it joins via the Illinois Board of Higher Education. SARA covers the online program, not nursing boards, so a board can still set rules for clinicals; the next section shows how little Colorado adds. Certificate students should know the FNP file never names the Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate, a gap the SON Clinical Coordinator can close.

Colorado's board rules stop at first-license programs
Colorado's State Board of Nursing works inside the Department of Regulatory Agencies, in the Division of Professions and Occupations. When that board defines the programs it approves (Rule 1.2 of 3 CCR 716-1), it means the entry-level study leading to an initial RN or LPN license. Olivet's RN-BSN and graduate students fall outside that definition, and the rule asks their school for no application, registration or advance notice before Colorado clinicals begin.
So the usual Colorado gatekeepers for an Olivet student are the clinical site and Olivet itself. If a site asks for proof that Olivet may place you there, send the question to the SON Clinical Coordinator rather than answering for the school.
Full practice, after a prescribing mentorship
Full practice is AANP's label for Colorado, with a string attached: a new NP must attest to 750 hours of experience, gained in a mentoring agreement with an APRN or a physician, to hold prescriptive authority. Colorado preceptors you meet may be past that mentoring stage or still inside it, and either can suit an Olivet course; Olivet's approval, guided by your Canvas requirements course, decides. Read preceptor approval before you commit anyone.
Colorado entered the compact on January 19, 2018; with a Colorado-issued multistate license, an Olivet student can also train in Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah and Oklahoma, all compact members that Olivet also approves. Wyoming is the exception on the map: it is one of Olivet's Not Approved states, which rules out practices just over the northern line for Fort Collins and Greeley students. Colorado has not enacted the APRN Compact.
Denver to Fort Collins, and the rural credit
Denver-Aurora-Centennial holds about 3.09 million residents, Colorado Springs roughly 782,000, and Greeley and Fort Collins-Loveland about 378,000 and 377,000. UCHealth, HCA HealthONE, Denver Health, CommonSpirit Health's Colorado hospitals and Intermountain Health, whose Colorado hospitals include Denver's Saint Joseph Hospital, are among the larger names, each publishing its own student terms.
Rural and frontier sites may mention the state's preceptor tax credit, an income tax break for unpaid preceptors working in Colorado shortage areas. Advanced practice nurses were already eligible; HB22-1005 added outpatient RNs and other licensed professionals, capped claims at 300 preceptors yearly, and kept the credit alive for Colorado tax years that begin before January 1, 2033. That bill also tied eligibility to students at accredited Colorado colleges and universities. Olivet is an Illinois school, so your rotation does not appear to qualify a preceptor for it.

Questions Olivet students ask
Can I use a Wyoming preceptor if I live near Fort Collins?
No. Wyoming sits among the 13 states Olivet's FNP file marks Not Approved: Olivet has yet to decide whether its FNP satisfies Wyoming's rules, and until it does, no Olivet FNP hours may be logged in Wyoming, whatever state the student calls home. Keep the search in Colorado or another approved neighbor such as Nebraska or Kansas.
Can Olivet NEL students complete practicums in Colorado?
Olivet's NEL pages require practicum hours in an approved state but publish no NEL list, so confirm Colorado with the SON Clinical Coordinator before you line up a Denver-area nurse educator or leader. The two NEL practicums are NRSG 604 and NRSG 620; the MSN NEL program page explains both.
What does Colorado's 750-hour mentorship mean for my preceptor?
It is a condition on the NP's own prescriptive authority, not on you. Colorado NPs document that mentored experience before they prescribe on their own. A newer NP may still be completing it, and an Olivet preceptor can be at either stage, subject to Olivet's approval and your course requirements.
Do I need a Colorado license for Olivet clinicals there?
Olivet requires a current, unencumbered RN license good for the state where you train. Because Colorado is a compact state, either a Colorado license or a multistate card from your own compact home state covers Olivet clinical days there.
