NRSG 637C: 135 hours of women's health primary care
Olivet Nazarene University's NRSG 637C Women's Health Primary Care Clinical is the second FNP clinical in the new-curriculum order, paired with NRSG 637 Women's Health Primary Care. It carries 135 of the program's 750 hours, and your preceptor has to see women's health patients in a primary care role, which may mean a different clinic from the one that hosted your adult hours.

Recruiting a women's health preceptor
Olivet's program pages ask you to begin with your personal and professional networks, and Olivet approves the preceptor you find. For a women's health course, the useful part of that network may be different from the contacts that produced your adult preceptor: colleagues in OB-GYN offices, women's health clinics and family practices with a steady flow of women's health visits.
When you approach someone, ask about fit before availability. Does the practice see women's health patients in a primary care role, rather than only surgical or inpatient care? Can it host 135 hours inside your course dates? Does it onboard students through MyClinicalExchange or its own process? Those three answers tell you whether the request is worth sending on to Olivet.

Questions to settle before the first women's health day
Olivet's public pages leave several course-level details to the syllabus and the Canvas requirements course. Get these answers before the course opens rather than in its third week.
- Which preceptor credentials Olivet accepts for this course, since its criteria are not printed on its web pages
- Whether your licensure state adds preceptor or documentation requirements, which Olivet's disclosure file says some states do
- Which visit types the course counts, and whether any share of the 135 hours must be direct patient care
- How and when faculty collect input from your preceptor
- The exact last course day, because 11:59 p.m. CST that day is the cutoff for clinical work

Carrying compliance from NRSG 636C into 637C
Your compliance record from the first clinical carries forward, but its dates keep running. Olivet requires every item to stay current throughout, so test each expiry date against the end of NRSG 637C, not its start: the annual TB result, the yearly flu vaccine and an in-person AHA BLS card that has to remain valid for the whole practicum. Olivet ties the drug screen to the start of the practicum, with clearance 2 to 4 weeks before it. The handbook does not say whether each new clinical course needs a fresh screen, so put that question to the requirements course before NRSG 637C begins. A women's health site can also ask for more than Olivet does, since the handbook notes that sites may set extra requirements of their own.
If NRSG 637C does not go to plan
When a preceptor cancels partway through, the priority is an approved replacement before your hours stall; the preceptor dropped out page walks through it.
If the course itself is failed, Olivet's paired-course rule applies: retake whichever of NRSG 637 or NRSG 637C was failed and audit the other, and the audit can send you back through as much as half of the 135 hours. Olivet can also audit a clinical course that is over two years old when you finish, which is worth remembering if you plan a break after this one.
Both rules are easier to live with when you know them early, so read the grading section of your syllabus in week one and keep your Project Concert entries current as you go.

Questions Olivet students ask
Can a certified nurse-midwife precept NRSG 637C?
Olivet's web pages do not list which credentials may precept FNP students; the criteria sit in the Canvas requirements course. Your licensure state may layer its own preceptor standards on top. Check both before you ask a midwife, an OB-GYN physician or a women's health NP to commit, and let Olivet's approval confirm the choice.
Can I do NRSG 637C at the same clinic as NRSG 636C?
Olivet does not rule it in or out. What matters is that the patients you see fit women's health primary care as the syllabus defines it, and that Olivet approves the preceptor. A family practice with enough women's health visits may work, so confirm with your course faculty before you build your plan around it.
How is women's health handled in the current curriculum?
Continuing students have no NRSG 637C. Their women's health hours come through NRSG 665B, paired with NRSG 668 Women's Health Therapeutics & Management Across the Lifespan at 125 hours, and later NRSG 665F, which pairs complex pediatric and women's health and reaches 125 hours in January 2027.
Is NRSG 637C shorter than the other FNP clinicals?
It carries 135 hours, the same as NRSG 638C and fewer than the 240 in NRSG 636C and NRSG 639C. Olivet's pages do not give its length in weeks. Plan your weekly hours from the syllabus, and leave room for canceled clinic days before the final due date.
Does a new preceptor for NRSG 637C need Olivet's approval?
Yes. Olivet's program pages describe every FNP preceptor as approved and self-selected, so a women's health preceptor you add for this course goes through Olivet's approval before you rely on those hours. Olivet's public pages do not name the approval form or its timing, so look for both in the requirements course, and use the preceptor approval guide to get ready.
