Olivet's FNP Immersion: NRSG 688 and NRSG 685
The FNP Immersion closes out the Family Nurse Practitioner sequence at Olivet Nazarene University: NRSG 688 in the new curriculum and NRSG 685 in the current one. Olivet's fee sheet lists a lab fee for it, which points to hands-on lab time, while the location, length and dates reach you through the course itself. The practical job for you is to finish the clinicals in front of it on time.

Where the immersion sits in each curriculum
In the new-curriculum sample schedule, NRSG 688 FNP Immersion is the final course, listed after the four population-focused clinicals from NRSG 636C to NRSG 639C. Those four clinicals carry all 750 hours, and the handbook attaches no hour count to the immersion. Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) certificate students on the new curriculum end the same way: NRSG 639C, then NRSG 688.
Continuing students on the current curriculum get to NRSG 685 once they finish six lettered clinicals, NRSG 665A to NRSG 665F, which run alongside the management courses numbered NRSG 667 to NRSG 672. An optional NRSG 686 Virtual Clinical also appears in that handbook. Olivet does not say which curriculum goes with which start date, so your advisor confirms yours; the two curricula compared page lays out the rest.

What Olivet publishes about the immersion
Olivet's public documents settle three things: the course numbers, the course's place at the end of the FNP sequence, and the lab fee. The practical details belong to your FNP faculty and the Canvas course, and those are the sources to trust for your cohort.

The lab fee and the other FNP-only costs
Three lines on the School of Nursing's track-specific fee sheet apply to FNP students alone: Amplify, the Fitzgerald Health board-prep program that comes with a 3P competency exam; a lab fee tied to the immersion; and medical equipment. The fee sheet is where Olivet publishes current amounts, so read the figures there and check the version date on the sheet.
If the lab meets in person, the fee is only part of the budget. Travel and days away from work are yours to arrange, and both are easier once the dates are known early. The clinical courses in front of the immersion bring their own site-dependent charges, such as a MyClinicalExchange account where a site uses it; Olivet's fee sheet, line by line walks through compliance, Project Concert and those site costs so the whole final year is budgeted in one pass.

- Protect the immersion daysOnce Olivet confirms the dates, request the time off and settle travel. Schedule clinical shifts around those days rather than on top of them.
Finishing: commencement, certificates and the board exam
Olivet's MSN graduates walk once a year, in May, while certificate students finish without a ceremony. If walking in May matters to you, work out with your advisor which immersion and final-clinical timing gets you there, and leave a cushion for hours that run late. Ask for that plan early, while a slipped session can still be absorbed.
For certificate students, then, the target is the completion date itself, which decides when the board exam and a new role can begin. Olivet prepares FNP graduates for the ANCC and/or AANPCB exam, and Amplify is the board-prep resource the program lists. A late finish in the last clinical shifts every one of these steps, which is how a missing preceptor early in the year becomes a delayed graduation later.

Questions Olivet students ask
Is Olivet's FNP Immersion held in person?
A lab fee for the immersion appears on Olivet's fee sheet, a sign of in-person lab work, and a 2021 Olivet video described set immersion days. The handbook does not name the location or the length. Your FNP course faculty and the Canvas course give the current format, so confirm it before you plan travel or time off.
Do the immersion days count toward the 750 clinical hours?
In the new curriculum the 750 hours come from the four clinical courses: 240 in NRSG 636C, 135 in NRSG 637C, 135 in NRSG 638C and 240 in NRSG 639C. The handbook lists no hours for NRSG 688. Treat the immersion as separate from your 750, and ask faculty whether it has a log of its own.
What is NRSG 686 Virtual Clinical?
NRSG 686 is an elective virtual clinical that the current-curriculum handbook places beside NRSG 685. It does not appear in the new-curriculum sample schedule. Continuing students who wonder whether it belongs in their plan should ask their advisor whether it applies to them and when it runs.
Do Post-Graduate FNP certificate students take the immersion?
Yes, in the new curriculum. The Post-Graduate APRN (FNP) sample order ends with NRSG 639C and then NRSG 688, the same close as the MSN. With no commencement for certificate students, finishing the last clinical and the immersion is what completes the certificate. Current-curriculum certificate students should check the courses marked for them in their handbook.
