Olivet Nazarene University's MSN handbook asks FNP and Post-Graduate APRN students to carry malpractice insurance only when the clinical site requires it, at minimum limits the handbook sets. What the MSN handbook says
The New Curriculum MSN/PG-APRN handbook puts malpractice insurance on the compliance list with a condition attached: FNP and PG-APRN students need it only when the site requires it. When a site does, the handbook sets the minimum coverage limits, and those limits are the figure your policy has to meet.
That makes malpractice insurance unlike most other compliance items. TB, titers, BLS and the drug screen apply to every student on the list, while this one switches on site by site. You learn whether you need it from the site, as part of its onboarding, and you find the required limits in your handbook.
The handbook's malpractice line is written for FNP and PG-APRN students. Nursing Education & Leadership students should ask in their requirements course whether a practicum site has asked for coverage.
What Olivet's fee sheet lists
Olivet's School of Nursing Program Track-Specific Fees sheet, dated August 17, 2026, mentions insurance in two separate places on the same document.
- Student Professional Liability Insurance for clinical and practicum settings. In the FNP section it appears under the fees covered by the university.

Read alongside the handbook, these lines leave a question that only Olivet and your site can settle: whether the liability coverage the fee sheet lists satisfies a particular site, or whether that site wants an individual policy in your own name.
Keep the wording exact when you ask. The fee sheet lists the liability line as covered by the university; what that coverage includes, and whether a given site accepts it, are questions for the SON Clinical Coordinator and the site.

Site fees that come with the insurance question
Individual malpractice insurance sits on the fee sheet's list of possible clinical-site fees, beside parking and an ID badge. Some sites also onboard students through MyClinicalExchange, which carries a platform charge only at the sites that use it. None of these can be known until a site is chosen, which is why the site decision shapes your real cost. Two sites a short drive apart can ask for quite different things, and the difference only shows up once you ask.

NEL, RN-BSN and Traditional BSN students
The handbook's malpractice condition names FNP and PG-APRN students. For NEL practicums in NRSG 604 and NRSG 620, ask your course faculty whether the site has asked for coverage, since education and leadership sites set their own onboarding.
New RN-BSN students complete a set list plus any site-specific items, so a hospice or community site that asks for coverage adds it to that list. Traditional BSN students fall under a different statement: the BSN handbook says that for full-time BSN students, the University assumes responsibility for the student.
